DESCRIPTION:May is not really that far off and we all look forward to the annual 17th of May family picnic\, which will be on Saturday\, May 18th. It’s a big event and draws not only lodge members but lots of other families from the Norwegian community in Boston.  There is a short parade\, open faced sandwiches\, hot dogs\, and field games for the children. \nMembers: In order for it to be a success\, we need volunteers. There are lots of things to volunteer to do and most of the jobs are not that demanding. A sign-up sheet will be available at both the April and May cultural meetings. SUMMARY:Welcome and Anniversary Celebration Special Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 28th\, 3:00 p.m.\, we will have a special meeting at the Unitarian Memorial Church\, 102 Green Street\, in Fairhaven\, MA\, to meet and welcome the members of what was originally Den Norske Foreningen and later became Dovre Lodge. Dovre Lodge merged with Norumbega at the beginning of this year\, just before the 140th anniversary of that organization. We want to welcome our new members from Dovre and help acknowledge and celebrate the long history of their lodge\, the oldest in the Third District. \nWe hope as many members as possible will be able to come to the celebration. it will be an informal gathering with coffee\, cake\, and other goodies\, and will give us all an opportunity to get to know one another. If you think you’ll be able to come\, please \nlet Luana know (vicepresident@norumbegasofn.org) by Friday\, April 19th\, so she can make sure there will be enough tables and chairs (and cake) to accommodate everyone. And if you would like to contribute something to the dessert table\, we won’t say no.

DESCRIPTION:February has Valentine’s Day\, when we celebrate love. Let’s show our love\, fraternalism\, creativity\, and\ngenerosity at the February cultural meeting on Sunday\, February 6th\, by having a fund-raiser to benefit the\nSons of Norway Foundation\, which provides much needed help to members nationwide in times of disaster.\nSince we still have to be flexible because of the ongoing pandemic\, we’ve planned an event which can be\ndone in person\, via Zoom\, or as a hybrid event.  \nLet’s create themed baskets to be auctioned off at the February meeting. Love to bake? Make a basket with cooking\nitems or baked goods. Love the movies? Make a movie night basket. Love to celebrate? Make a wine and cheese basket.\nLove to read? Make a book lover’s basket. Love to garden? Make a basket with seed packets and gardening tools. How\nabout a game night basket\, a Lego basket\, a graphic novel basket\, or a Valentine’s Day hearts and flowers and chocolate\nbasket? This is an opportunity to have some fun\, admire one another’s creativity\, and demonstrate our generosity by\nhelping fellow Sons of Norway members in need. If our meeting is in person\, bring your baskets to the Nordic Hall\nto be auctioned off. If our meeting is by Zoom or is hybrid\, prepare to show us your basket from the comfort of your\nown home. We’ll arrange a time and place for people to meet to claim their baskets. Hint: you are allowed to put\ntogether more than one basket\, and you are not only allowed\, but encouraged\, to bid on more than one basket!  \nProtocol for entering the building: You must show proof of vaccination before entering the Nordic Hall. Masks must\nbe worn. If you are not vaccinated and want to attend the meeting virtually\, send an e-mail to Peter Vatne at\npresident@norumbegasofn.org so he can send you the Zoom link.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a walk around Walden Pond where Henry David Thoreau got his inspiration to write his book simply titled “Walden”.  This easy walk will take us past the location of his cabin where he endeavored to live the simple life.  The trail around the pond is basically flat and well cared for.  It will be a great way to spend an afternoon with friends and family. \nNote;  Due to Covid 19 restrictions this scheduled walk can change on short notice.  Please check this site regularly for any updates to the status of this event.
