FAIRHAVEN — Sylvia M. (Aanensen) Brunette, 80, of Fairhaven passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was the loving wife of 54 years to Anthime E. Brunette.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Jon Aanensen and Ellen (Tollefsen) Thompson, she lived most of her life in Fairhaven and was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Sylvia graduated from Fairhaven High School and SMTI. She later received her Master’s degree from Bridgewater State College. Mrs. Brunette was a schoolteacher at the Tripp School in Fairhaven for 14 years.
Sylvia was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Colonial Club, Fairhaven Improvement Association and had been a docent at the Whaling Museum in New Bedford for 23 years.
She is survived by her husband Anthime; two sons, Robert Jon Brunette and his wife Kristine of Fairhaven and Peter Brunette and his wife Sandra of Belfast, Maine; a daughter, Laura Ann Sadowsky and her husband Bruce of Arvada, Colorado; five grandchildren, Peter Magnus Brunette, Teddy Brunette, Anthime Brunette, Garret Brunette and James Sadowsky; a brother, John Aanensen and his wife Betty of Fairhaven and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Sylvia’s Life will be held Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11am in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 Temple Pl., Fairhaven. Private interment will be at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Arrangements are by the Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven.
